Scarf Tutorial #5: Hermes Silk Scarf Criss-Cross #1

There are many ways to create criss-cross knot. The patterns we can create largely depend on the length of the scarves. We will be exploring the variations through the use of different Hermes scarf dimensions (read: Hermes Scarf, Twilly and Stole Size Guide) such as Hermes smooth and pleated square scarves of 90 x 90cm, and stole. For attempts that turn out well, I will create scarf tutorials for them so stay tuned for that. Today, let’s learn how to make criss-cross #1 using Hermes silk stole.

In the picture demonstration, the green symbol represents one side (side A) of the scarf with a loop. The pink and blue symbols represent each “column” of the stole on another side, let’s name them column P (pink) and B (blue).

Steps:

1. Fold the stole into half and rest it on your nape.
2. Pass column P through the loop.
3. Pass column B through the loop. This time around, create an interlacing criss-cross pattern by passing column B through the loop in the opposite way to what we have done for column P. If you have tuck column P under and over the loop, tuck column B over and under the loop.
4. Adjust the knot.
